Have you ever wondered what true creative freedom looks like? People may define “freedom” differently, but for many of us, freedom means being able to do what you want to do, when you want to do it.
My guest today, Vincent Pugliese, will break down what true freedom means as a creative entrepreneur, and how freelancing can be a big part of that process.
Vincent was a professional photojournalist for more than 23 years. He was assigned to photograph four U.S. Presidents and nearly every major sporting event, including multiple Super Bowls, the World Series, The NHL Final, the NCAA Final Four and everything in between. Vincent’s work has been published in most major newspapers, magazines, and online publications throughout the world.
Vincent now coaches and leads small business owners and freelancers towards a life of time, money, and location freedom. You can read his story in his excellent book Freelance to Freedom. He is husband to Elizabeth, who works alongside him in their business, and is a father to their boys.
That’s the “bio” part of my introduction, but let me share how Vincent has impacted my life. A few months ago, I joined his Total Life Freedom Community. My monthly investment in that community is very small compared to the immense value I have received. I can tell you firsthand that Vincent is not only a phenomenal business coach and mentor—he is also one of the most generous and positive people I know.
I would also recommend that you check out Vincent’s podcast, which is also called Total Life Freedom. It’s a daily show and each episode is only a few minutes long. If you are interested in building a business as a creative entrepreneur and can only listen to one podcast, I’m going to suggest that you listen to his … even if that means abandoning mine. Yes, it’s that good. (Fortunately, his is pretty short so I hope you’ll listen to both shows!)
Side note: When we recorded this episode, Vincent’s podcast had not yet launched, but it’s live now and there are over 100 fantastic episodes.
This conversation is all about why it’s important to work toward freedom in your life, and how freelancing can be the vehicle for getting there. You’ll learn the value of writing a book and how it brings you credibility, why it’s important to be generous, how to properly build a network, and some wise thoughts on how to choose your side gig when starting a business.
Key Takeaways
- Writing a book will give you credibility and authority.
- When you are building your business on the side, pick one thing and stick with it.
