Who this policy covers

This policy explains how personal information is handled on kentsanders.net, the website of Kent Sanders, a professional ghostwriter and author. Throughout this page, “I” and “my” refer to Kent Sanders, and “you” refers to anyone visiting the site or getting in touch through it.

The short version: I collect very little, I do not sell anything to anyone, and everything you send me is treated with the same discretion I bring to client manuscripts.

What I collect

Information you give me

When you submit the contact form, I receive whatever you choose to enter — typically your name, email address, and details about the book you are considering. When you request my free book, I receive your name and email address.

If you email me or reply to something I send, I keep that correspondence so I can pick up the thread later.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, this one records basic technical information when you visit: IP address, browser and device type, the pages you viewed, and the site or search that sent you here. This is aggregate traffic data, and I do not use it to identify individual visitors.

What I do not collect

• No payment details are taken on this website
• There are no user accounts or logins for visitors
• I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16
• I do not buy or import contact lists

How I use it

Information you give me is used to do the thing you contacted me about, and very little else:

• To reply to your enquiry and discuss a possible book project
• To send you the free book you requested, and occasional emails about writing, publishing, and my own work — only if you asked for them
• To keep records of client and prospective-client conversations
• To understand how the site is used so I can improve it
• To meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations

I do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling.

Who else sees it

I do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. Ever.

A small number of service providers process information on my behalf so the site can function. Each is bound by its own privacy terms:

• Jotform — hosts and delivers the contact form
• Google Analytics and Google Search Console — website traffic measurement
• Google Fonts — typefaces are loaded from Google’s servers, which means your IP address is visible to Google when a page loads
• My email service provider — stores subscriber details and sends the free book and any newsletters
• My web host — stores the site and its server logs

Beyond these, I will only disclose personal information if the law requires it, or if it is genuinely necessary to protect someone’s rights or safety.

A note on confidentiality

Ghostwriting runs on discretion. Anything you tell me about an unpublished book idea, a manuscript in progress, or your reasons for writing is treated as confidential, whether or not we end up working together, and whether or not a formal agreement is in place.

Cookies and analytics

This site uses cookies and similar technologies for two purposes: keeping the website working properly, and measuring traffic through Google Analytics.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Analytics cookies are not necessary for the site to function, so blocking them will not break anything. You can also install Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Embedded content from other sites — such as the contact form — may set its own cookies and behaves as though you had visited that site directly.

How long I keep it

• Enquiries that do not become projects — kept while there is a realistic chance of working together, then deleted
• Client records — kept for the life of the project and afterwards as long as tax and contractual obligations require
• Email subscribers — kept until you unsubscribe, which you can do from the bottom of any email
• Analytics data — retained according to Google’s standard retention settings

Your rights and choices

Wherever you live, you can ask me to:

• Tell you what personal information I hold about you
• Correct anything that is wrong
• Delete your information
• Stop sending you email — instantly, via the unsubscribe link

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing, to receive your data in a portable format, and to complain to your national data protection authority. Where I rely on consent — for marketing emails — you can withdraw it at any time.

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used, to request deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. I do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.

To exercise any of these, get in touch through the contact page and say what you would like me to do. I will respond within a month.

How it is protected

The site runs over an encrypted connection, and the services I use apply their own security measures to the data they hold. Access to enquiries and client material is limited to me and, where a project requires it, to collaborators bound by confidentiality.

No system is perfectly secure. If something goes wrong in a way that affects you, I will tell you promptly and explain what happened.

Links to other sites

This site links out to places like Apple Podcasts, LinkedIn, and The Daily Writer, and may link to booksellers or client websites. Once you follow a link, you are on someone else’s site under their privacy policy, not this one.

Changes to this policy

If how I handle information changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated. Substantial changes affecting people already on my email list will be announced by email.
